Join us for an immersive and relaxing week and learn to upholster a beautiful item for your home.
It doesn’t matter if you are a complete beginner, all are welcome, with over twenty years of experience Stuart will guide and support you through learning about the tools and techniques of upholstery to transform your project and create something you can be proud of.

Studio Artisan is an exciting new project founded by Stuart and Rachel, linked to the Oxford School of Upholstery now in its third decade of teaching both Modern and Traditional Upholstery in the UK.

Studio Artisan brings the opportunity of learning the traditional skills of upholstery in the tranquil environment of a pretty Charentaise village. Take the opportunity to slow down and take a breath, while creating that special chair to cherish for generations to come.

Our Atelier is situated in the heart of the village of Rioux-Martin next to the beautiful and historic Romanesque Church. It is a short distance from all amenities and the train station in Chalais with links to mainline rail networks of Bordeaux – 1.5 hours, Angouleme – 45 mins with its TGV route to Paris and Limoges. The airports of Limoges and Bergerac are just over an hour away. We can advise you on accommodation or if your local you can commute.

The duration of your course will be 9:30am – 4:30pm, Monday through to Thursday although, you may choose to extend your stay to enjoy more of what the area has to offer. Cost of the course is 420€ plus materials.

You will have your own upholstery workstation and a toolkit with the tools you’ll need for the duration of your course. All the necessary upholstery materials are available from the workshop. To begin you just need to bring yourself, your project and top fabric, we will advise you on these before you come. Lastly, you’ll need a camera so you can make a step by step record of your work and the techniques you learn.

There will be plenty of time after an industrious day to wander in the woods and swim in the nearby river Dronne or you can just relax and enjoy drinks in the pretty villages of the surrounding area.
